PIM software with script processing

ComBinder PIM’s script processing capability allows large volumes of product data to be automatically updated – in a controlled and traceable manner, and directly from within the product manager.

This means that recurring changes, corrections and data clean-ups no longer need to be carried out manually on a product-by-product basis. Instead, users select the relevant products or product groups and run a pre-prepared script with a single click.

ComBinder thus complements centralised product data management with a powerful automation layer for larger volumes of data.

What is script processing?

Script processing enables predefined automations in ComBinder PIM. A script contains a defined task, such as correcting field values, standardising formatting or adding specific product information.

The scripts are provided by JungMedia or the organisation’s own IT department. Users do not need any programming knowledge: the script appears in ComBinder and can be launched via the menu or directly from the product tree.

This makes the function particularly suitable for companies that regularly need to maintain, clean up or update large volumes of product data in accordance with fixed rules.

Typical areas of application

Script processing is particularly useful when changes are to be made on a recurring basis, according to rules, or across a wide range of products.

  • Adapt product descriptions or technical fields in accordance with set rules
  • Standardise formatting in product data
  • Correct attributes, characteristics or values
  • Import or supplement data from other sources
  • update larger product ranges in accordance with defined specifications
  • apply pre-prepared corrections across a wide range of products

A series of manual individual steps is transformed into a controlled, automated process.

ComBinder PIM is powered by state-of-the-art automation and structured product data.

Launch directly in Product Manager

Scripts can be run wherever product data is maintained: directly in the Product Manager.

Users select one product, several products or an entire product group, and then run the desired script via the context menu. The script is applied specifically to the selected products.

In addition, a central overview of all available scripts in the current workspace is available under Tools → Script Management. There, scripts can be viewed, updated and run directly.

Working safely with backups and logs

Automated changes are powerful. That is why ComBinder asks whether a backup of the workspace should be created before each script run.

  • Creating a backup: the recommended option before making major changes or running new scripts
  • Continue without a backup: advisable for processes that have already been tested
  • Cancel: the operation will not be carried out

Once the process has been completed, ComBinder displays a log. This log shows which steps were carried out, whether any products were modified or skipped, and whether any warnings or errors occurred.

Advantages of script processing

Script processing combines ease of use for end-users with flexible automation for IT and development teams.

Faster data updates

Large quantities of product data can be processed in a single operation, rather than opening each product individually.

Fewer human errors

Rule-based changes are carried out in a reproducible manner and reduce typical errors caused by repeated manual processing.

Controlled execution

Scripts can be applied specifically to selected products or product groups. Backup queries and logs provide additional security.

Script code and product data demonstrate the flexible automation capabilities of ComBinder PIM.

Simple for users, flexible for IT

For users, the process has been deliberately kept simple: select the product range, run the script, check the result.

At the same time, this provides technical teams with a flexible way of mapping out individual workflows. Scripts can be tailored to suit the specific organisation, data model or process.

This makes it possible to automate specific requirements without having to extend ComBinder itself or develop custom input forms.

Automation in the local ComBinder environment

Script processing is an integral part of the local ComBinder environment. Scripts are made available in the workspace and launched directly from within ComBinder.

This makes the feature particularly well-suited to companies that wish to manage their product data in a controlled manner within their own environment, whilst still requiring powerful automation capabilities.

A real-life example

A manufacturer wishes to standardise technical specifications across a large product group. Instead of opening each product individually, the relevant product group is selected in the Product Manager and a pre-prepared script is run.

If requested, ComBinder first creates a backup, then carries out the adjustments, and finally displays a log showing the result.

This turns a time-consuming maintenance task into a transparent, automated process.

Edit product data more quickly

Would you like to stop having to edit large amounts of data manually, or to automate recurring adjustments?

ComBinder PIM and script processing enable product data processes to be efficiently expanded – from simple corrections to bespoke automation.
